Gasket - What is it? |
A gasket is a combination of material designed to be included between the two surfaces of
the flanged joint. The function of a gasket is to seal and prevent the leakage of the
media.
Engine gaskets have to be tough. Drastic temperature extremes, high internal pressure,
coolants and lubricants of every description; gaskets must handle them all. Ferolite
gaskets meet these demanding conditions with unsurpassed standards of innovation &
quality.

Gaskets - How do they work? |
A seal is effected by action of force upon the gasket surface, which compresses the
gasket, causing it to flow into flange imperfections. In order to maintain seal, the
resultant bolt load on the gasket should at all times be greater than the hydrostatic end
force acting against it. The internal pressure produces the hydrostatic end force, which
acts to seperate the flanges.
